Environment Conditions and Storage

Updated April 01, 2026

Correct environmental conditions are one of the biggest factors in a clean install and durable finish—especially for exterior work.

Required: Execution of installation must conform to EIFS manufacturer requirements and project specifications.

Temperature and freezing restrictions (critical)

  • Frozen material should not be used.
  • Application to a frozen substrate is prohibited.
  • Temperature before, during, and until coatings cure should not be less than 5°C (41°F).

If your adhesive/basecoat/finish system specifies a higher minimum temperature (common), follow the most strict requirement.

Weather and jobsite readiness

For best results: - Avoid installing during rain, snow, or heavy fog—especially before coatings have cured. - Protect freshly installed mouldings from wind-driven rain and direct water exposure until fully cured. - Avoid extreme heat, direct sun, or high winds that can cause coatings to dry too quickly and reduce bond quality.

Substrate conditions

The bonding surface must be: - Sound (not crumbling or delaminating) - Clean (free of dust, grease, loose paint, or release agents) - Dry (no ice, frost, standing water, or saturation)

Moisture trapped behind trim is a common cause of failures. For exterior projects, follow EIFS detailing to keep water managed and moving away from the assembly.

Storage and handling (to prevent warping and damage)

  • Store mouldings flat, supported, and off the ground.
  • Keep products covered and protected from weather and jobsite debris.
  • Avoid leaving material in direct sunlight or high heat for long periods.
  • Handle carefully to protect edges and finished surfaces.

Cure time reminders

Adhesives and coatings need stable conditions to cure properly. Cure times vary by product, temperature, and humidity—always refer to: - EIFS manufacturer instructions - Product technical data sheets (TDS) - Project specs
