Priming, Painting, and Maintenance
Updated April 01, 2026
Moldings are designed to be finished with the specified primer coats and finishes. The right finishing steps protect the surface and deliver the final look.
Wait for proper cure
Before priming/painting: - Confirm adhesive and seam materials have cured per manufacturer requirements. - Keep conditions within the approved range through curing: - No frozen material - No application to frozen substrate - Temperature not less than 5°C (41°F) before, during, and until coatings cure (or higher if specified)
Prime and finish per specification
Even though many profiles are pre-coated, exterior and interior installations typically require: - The specified primer system - The specified finish coats (paint/coating)
Always follow: - Project specifications - EIFS manufacturer requirements - Product technical data sheets (TDS)

Exterior finishing reminders (general)
For exterior projects: - Use coatings rated for exterior exposure - Seal transitions and terminations properly - Maintain correct water-shedding details (flashings/drips) per the wall system
Maintenance (simple routine)
- Inspect exterior details periodically (at least annually).
- Clean dirt/debris with gentle methods appropriate for your finish system.
- Touch up chips or cracks early to prevent moisture intrusion.
Troubleshooting quick tips
Hairline cracking at seams: may indicate insufficient seam reinforcement or movement detail.
Delamination/bond issues: often linked to substrate prep, contamination, or curing conditions.
Staining/water marks: check flashing, terminations, and sealant joints.
